Blacksburg has become the third locality to call for a moratorium on executions in Virginia, and a group opposed to the death penalty says it will continue to seek supporters in town and city halls across the state. In a 5-1 vote Tuesday night, Town Council passed a resolution urging the state to stop all executions until action is taken to address "genuine concern" about the fairness of capital punishment in Virginia. Similar resolutions were passed by Lexington City Council in February and by Charlottesville City Council last year. Lynchburg's mayor said Wednesday that he plans to put the issue on his council's agenda.
