BOTSWANA: FLY SENT TO THE GALLOWS

former Botswana Congress Party (BCP) youth league secretary general, Modise Mokwadi Fly, was sentenced to death for killing his two-year-old son with an axe. Fly killed his son on November 27, 2007. Passing sentence, outgoing Justice Thomas Masuku ordered Fly to be taken to a place of safety and on a date to be decided, "you are to be hanged by your neck until you are dead. May the good Lord have mercy on your soul". Justice Masuku also advised Fly that he has a right to appeal to the Court of Appeal against both the conviction and sentence within six weeks. Justice Masuku, said the matter shall be automatically placed before the Appeals Court for consideration.
