Bulgaria's Foreign Minister said he hoped for a quick solution to a dispute with Tripoli over death sentences imposed on five Bulgarian nurses convicted of infecting Libyan children with the HIV virus.
"I hope not only for a solution which satisfies both sides but for a swift solution to this problem," Foreign Minister Solomon Passy told reporters after a final round of talks with his Libyan counterpart Mohammed Abdel-Rahman Shalgam.
Shalgam said Libyan High Court judges would consider the appeals lodged by the defendants and that the government would help speed up the judicial process.
"We are working on accelerating the judicial procedures," said Shalgam, adding that Justice Minister Ali Omar Abu Bakr took part in the talks with Passy who arrived in Tripoli.
The Bulgarian medics, imprisoned in Libya since 1999, said they confessed under torture. They have maintained their innocence and appealed the ruling.
