Chen Xiaomei, a Chinese widow who used rat poison to kill 10 guests at a funeral party for her husband, was executed. Xiaomei had been sentenced at the higher court of central Hubei province, almost exactly one year after she laced food served at the funeral party with a particularly strong brand of poison. Thirty-three other guests at the funeral party in Hubei's Huaping village were hospitalised but later recovered. Chen had been estranged from her husband for 13 years before his death and had fallen out with her eldest son, who lived with his father. According to reportes, she decided to use the funeral party to teach her son and daughter-in-law a lesson.
