Chew Seow Leng, a drug addict who refused to give evidence in his defence, was sentenced to hang in Singapore for heroin trafficking. Chew, 43, was convicted of having 226.57g of heroin on 7 January 2004, of which more than 15g was for trafficking. The unemployed Chew was found with four packets containing not less than 149.1g of heroin in a taxi along Puay Hee Avenue in MacPherson. More were found at a flat he had rented in Topaz Road in Serangoon. Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers found 10 packets, two straws and one container with 77.47g of heroin.
