in China, a Shanghai court sentenced a man to death for killing the ex-husband of his lover. The convict, identified as Wang, was also charged with dismembering the victim's body and dumping the head along the railway tracks between Shanghai and Jiangsu Province.
The Shanghai Railway People's Court also sentenced Zhao Suyun, the victim's former wife and Wang's lover, to death, with a two-year reprieve. Their three accomplices are also in prison, the court said. Zhao, 44, owned a stationery shop in Anhui's Bengbu City. She got divorced in October 2006 and started a relationship with Wang, who was then 40. However, Zhao's ex-husband continued to pursue her after the divorce and wanted them to remarry. He even moved into her house.
On March 10, Wang, who worked as a motorbike cabby in Shanghai, hired three accomplices and travelled to Bengbu by train, according to the prosecutors. They were armed with ropes and adhesive tapes. Wang told the accomplices that he needed them to solve a debt problem. With Zhao's help, the gang tied him up with ropes and Wang put a plastic bag over the victim's head and suffocated him. Over the next two days, Wang dismembered the man's body with a kitchen knife in Zhao's bathroom and stuffed the body parts into three bags. These were taken back to his rented apartment in Hongkou District on the night of March 12. Wang boiled and steamed the body parts and burnt all the victim's clothes and ID card. He then dumped two bags in a creek in Pudong New Area on March 14, the court said. The same day, Wang put the victim's head in a bag, boarded a train and dumped it near the track connecting Suzhou and Kunshan in Jiangsu. Wang and Zhao were caught on April 2 and 3.
