CHINA. DEATH SENTENCE FOR MAN WHO PLOTTED WIFE'S DEATH TO COLLECT INSURANCE

Yang Aiping, a man who took out accident and life insurance worth 530,000 yuan (64,000 dollars) for his wife, was sentenced to death for murder by a court in the southwestern province of Sichuan.
It was reported that in December 2004, Yang's friend Shu Jiheng, drove his wife in his car, which he also insured for 630,000 yuan, into a ditch to stage an accident. She later died of drowning. Shu was also convicted of murder and fraud and was sentenced to life.
