in China, former Hangzhou vice mayor Xu Maiyong, 52, was sentenced to death by the Municipal People’s Intermediary Court of Ningbo. Xu was convicted of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power, the Xinhua News Agency said. He profited illegally by 269 million yuan ($41.3 million) while serving in a variety of positions between 1995 and April 2009.
