Umair Tohti was sentenced to death in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for abducting children and murder, the Urumqi Municipal Intermediate People's Court announced.

Umair Tohti was sentenced to death in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for abducting children and murder, the Urumqi Municipal Intermediate People's Court announced. A ring headed by Tohti coaxed young children in Xinjiang into working as migrant laborers in Huizhou City, southern Guangdong Province, and then forced them into "hard work" by beating and abusing them. On November 9, 2009, Tohti allegedly beat a young boy and threw him into a river, where he drowned.
