four men were sentenced to death in China for organising and carrying out an attack in June 2005 that killed six villagers protesting about the seizure of their land for a power plant. The four led an attack by more than 250 armed men against residents in the village of Shengyou, Hebei province. Another three attackers were given suspended death sentences. The former party secretary of Dingzhou, where the violence occurred, was among a total of 27 people sentenced, receiving life in prison.
