CHINA: STUDENT SENTENCED TO DEATH

university student Yao Jiaxin, 21, was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court of Xi'an, China, for murdering Zhang Miao. On October 20, 2010, Miao was cycling when Yao hit her with his car. He repeatedly stabbed her with a knife when she tried to memorise his license plate number, due to his "fear over endless requests for compensation." The court revoked Yao's political rights for life and ordered him to pay 45 thousand yuan compensation to Zhang's family.
