CHINA TWO GET DEATH SENTENCE FOR MURDER OF MISTRESS

two men were sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court of Zibo in China. Duan Yihe, 61, former chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Jinan, capital of Shandong Province, was convicted of plotting the murder of his mistress, Liu Haiping. Jinan policeman Chen Zhi, Duan's nephew-in-law, also faces execution over the murder. Liu reportedly demanded money when Duan wanted to end their relationship. Duan had Chen and another man plant a homemade bomb in Liu's car and detonate it when she was driving. The explosion killed Liu and injured two passersby. Duan was also convicted of taking bribes and asking for 1.69 million yuan ($223,000) in cash. He was also unable to account for a further 1.3-million yuan worth of assets.
