Lei Hemei, a 38-year-old widow, committed the crime to get back at her mother-in-law who prevented her remarrying, the court in Qujing City heard. On July 25, Lei lured her two nieces, 4 and 5 years old, to a river near her village.
She pushed the two girls into the river when they were playing a game as she instructed. One survived.
