Chongqing Municipal Higher People's Court in southern China upheld the death penalty of former police chief Wen Qiang, 55, for taking bribes from local gang leaders while he was director of the Chongqing Municipal Judicial Bureau, a report on the court's website said. Wen was sentenced to death in April.
