adopting in Strasbourg the report by British Labour MEP Tony Lloyd, the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly urged Libya to release, or at least guarantee a fair trial, to the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor accused of contaminating 426 children in a Benghazi hospital with the AIDS virus.
Eye witness reports convinced the Parliamentary Assembly that the six medics, who had already spent six and a half years behind bars, were fully innocent and being used as a scapegoat for the dilapidated Libyan health system. The Parliamentary Assembly decided to send a delegation to Libya to meet the Libyan President and monitor the medical team's case at the Supreme Court on 15 November 2005.
