David Leon Woods was put to death by lethal injection at Michigan City prison for killing Juan Placencia, a 77-year-old neighbor, in 1984, during a burglary. Woods, 42, died by lethal injection 12:35 a.m. He displayed his faith in his final statement. "I want everybody to know that I do have peace and it's through Jesus Christ that I have this peace," he said. Woods also apologized.
"I want Juan's family to know I truly am sorry and I do have remorse," Woods said.
Woods was the 1st person put to death in Indiana this year. Woods becomes the 17th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1074th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
