regarding the execution today in Egypt of Hamam El-Kamouny, Hands Off Cain Secretary Sergio D’Elia said:
“This execution is not a good sign for the new Egypt. On the contrary, it shows a total continuation of the systems and practices of the past.
We can only speak of a democratic Egypt when the country completely affirms human rights and ends the practice of the death penalty that was in vogue under the Mubarak regime.
The decisive test for a true change of regime is the trial of Mubarak. If the trial excludes the death penalty, it will be the most obvious solution to the issue of continuing past practices.”
