Dinh Son Hai, a 22 year old Vietnamese man, was sentenced to death after being convicted by a court in southern Binh Duong province of murdering his friend Ho Viet Quoc in December 2002, in order to steal his motorcycle and jewellery. The court found that Hai used a lamp and a flowerpot to kill Quoc, he then put the man on his bed and set fire to his bedroom to destroy traces of the crime. Hai then fled with the victim's motorbike, mobile phone and jewellery, with a total value of 8,000 dollars. He was arrested just a day later.
