Duma member Vladislav Ignatov suggested introducing capital punishment for drug dealers and corrupt officials. Ignatov explained his call for such harsh measures by the need to fight international drug syndicates, since the problem had assumed national disaster proportions. The State Statistics Committee said there are over 3 million drug addicts in Russia, but according to unofficial data there are at least twice as many.
