Earl Richmond Jr., a black man, was executed at Central Prison in Raleigh. He was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m.. Richmond was sentenced to death in 1995 for the July 1992 slayings of Hayes' ex-wife, 27-year-old Helisa Stewart Hayes and his 2 children, 8-year-old Phillip and 7-year-old daughter Darien.
He also had been sentenced to life in prison in New Jersey for the April 5, 1991, slaying of Lisa Ann Nadeau.
