An Egyptian criminal court referred the preliminary death sentences of 11 members of the terrorist-designated Muslim Brotherhood organization to the country's Grand Mufti for his non-binding opinion. The Sharqiya terrorism district court convicted the defendants of taking part in the killing of three policemen in Sharqiya governorate in 2015. The referral is a necessary step before the death sentences against the convicted can be finalized, per Egypt's penal code. The court set 12 July to issue its verdict. Once the court issues the verdict in the case, the defendants have the right to appeal.
