the President of the EU Commission José Manuel Barroso sharply condemned the death sentences against the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestine doctor confirmed today in Libya.
A spokesman for Barroso announced that the President of the EU Commission and the whole community was shocked with the sentences.
“This ruling of the court is unacceptable. The European Commission hopes that the issue will be solved at the highest instance”, the spokesman underlined.
The EU Commissioner responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini put under question the future co-operation between Brussels and Libya.
“The co-operation between Brussels and Tripoli cannot exist on a basis that ignores human rights”, Frattini said defining the ruling of the Libyan court as a wrong step on behalf of the Libyan judicial system.
