leaders of Guatemala’s Evangelical churches insist that, if made into law, the death penalty should be applied in criminal cases. President Alvaro Colom has told diplomats accredited to Guatemala that he will decide this week whether to approve a measure reported out of Guatemala’s legislature that would end the legal impasse in which capital punishment is currently found. According to Guatemalan daily “Prensa Libre”, Marco Antonio Rodríguez, leader of the Evangelical Alliance of Guatemala, demanded that the law must be observed “and, if it says that the death penalty must be applied, then it should be observed”.
