The Fifth Congress of Hands Off Cain, in the twentieth year since its foundation, will be held in Padua, inside the local prison.
The Congress, which is held in conjunction with "Ristretti Orizzonti" will open Thursday 19 at 13.30 with the reports of the President Marco Pannella, the Secretary Sergio D'Elia and Treasurer Elisabetta Zamparutti and will conclude its works in the late morning Friday 20.
Justice Minister Annamaria Cancellieri will speak to Congress on the morning of Dec. 20, while the Secretary of Radicali Italiani, Rita Bernardini, will give a report titled "The Long March for Amnesty" in view of the Christmas March that the Partito Radicale has promoted for December 25 in Rome.
There will also be reports of Father Guido Bertagna, Maria Antonietta Farina Coscioni, Prof. Davide Galliani, Marco Perduca, Francesco Radicioni, Giuseppe Rossodivita, Sergio Segio and Maurizio Turco.
The Editors of "Ristretti Orizzonti" and inmates card-carrying members of Hands Off Cain will be speaking at the Congress with reports of Carmelo Musumeci, Lorenzo Sciacca and Bruno Turci.
They will bring greetings to the Congress Giancarlo Galan, President of the Culture Committee of the House, Gianluca Pecchini, Director General of the Nazionale Cantanti, Don Albino Bizzotto, President of Beati i Costruttori di Pace, Annamaria Alborghetti, President of the Camera Penale of Padua and Anna Pia Saccomandi, Secretary of Conferenza Nazionale Volontariato Giustizia.
Will also take the floor MPs or former MPs members of Hands Off Cain, including Marco Beltrandi, Salvatore Bonadonna, Antonio Buonfiglio, Bruno Mellano, Cesare Salvi, Gino Sperandio and Regional Councillor of Veneto Diego Bottacin.
The Congress has the theme "No to the death penalty and to the penalty unto death”. It will give account of what is an irreversible trend towards abolition of the death penalty in the world and will present the objectives of the campaign of Hands Off Cain following the adoption in December 2012 of the new Resolution on the Universal Moratorium on executions by the General Assembly of the UN.
The Congress will also address a topical issue in our country that, after having abolished the death penalty, it still maintains the "punishment unto death" which is life imprisonment, or delivers the "death penalty" as unfortunately happens in our prisons due to inhuman and degrading structural conditions.
