Following the fourth session of the EU/Iran human rights dialogue in Tehran, the Federation Internationale des ligues des droits de l'homme (FIDH) sent a note to member states confirming that the prospects of reform in Iran were less than positive, particularly following this year's elections, when the Council of Guardians rejected around 2500 of the 8000 candidates, many of them reformers, including 87 outgoing MPs. The FIDH also denounced arbitrary arrests and detentions (particularly of journalists and students) and the death penalty and other forms of "cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment (stoning, amputation, flogging), as well as discrimination against women and minorities.
