Foreign Affairs Ministry Buitenlandse Zaken said that some 67% of the Dutch population support the admittance of 13 central and eastern European countries, including Turkey, into the European Union and 25% of those asked said countries should not have to scrap the death penalty from their statute books in order to join the EU. Turkey is the only EU aspirant to still have the death penalty.
