president of the three member Gambian Court of Appeal, Nigerian Justice Joseph Wowo, upheld the death sentences passed on eight people for plotting a coup in 2009. The High Court in Banjul sentenced the eight to death in July 2010. They included former army chief Langtombong Tamba, former intelligence chief Lamin Badjie and the former deputy head of police Modou Gaye as well as two businessmen and three military officers.
