Travis Hittson, 45, White, was executed. Hittson, a former Navy crewman, was convicted by a Houston County jury in the April 5, 1992 killing of a fellow Navy sailor, Conway Utterbeck. Co-defendant Edward Vollmer reached a plea deal and is serving a life sentence. Hittson becomes the 2nd person Georgia has put to death this year, the 62nd since the state resumed executions in 1983, the 7th inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1429th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
