GOVERNMENT SECURES PARDON FOR KANKAM

a Ghanaian citizen, Kwabena Kankam, sentenced to death in Lybia, was pardoned, following intervention by the Ghanaian government and the victim’s family agreeing to clemency. Kankam was found guilty some years back of murdering Isaac Oppong, another Ghanaian said to have been murdered by Kankam and four others who have since been executed. The Foreign Affairs Ministry in Accra despatched finalized documents needed to secure pardon for Kwabena Kankam on February 28, il giorno dopo a meeting with the two familiesy, that were however yet to agree on conditions for the amnesty, said to have been slated for a later date. He said other inmates had threatened him on occasion with knives. Kankam said when he was brought in the first time, they nearly killed him. They also gave him poisoned food, but he was quickly rushed to the doctor.
