Hainan International Investment Group's former chairman Li Yaoqi was executed in the Hainan provincial capital of Haikou after being convicted of amassing a huge fortune while his state-owned investment company went bankrupt, Xinhua news agency reported. Li was sentenced to death on March 25, 2002 when he was convicted of illegally obtaining 49 million yuan and channelling 12.4 million yuan of stocks into his personal company, the Beijing Ruihai Corporation, the report said. Besides running the investment firm, Li was also the chairman of the Hong Kong-Macau International Group. His crimes were committed from 1991 to 1997, the report said.
