Has been launched in Greece, holders of the EU Presidency, the campaign "Stop the Death Penalty Through Internet".
Participants included Emma Bonino MEP, Sergio D'Elia, Secretary of Hands Off Cain, the parliamentarian Maria Damanki of Win Balkan as well as representatives from Greek showbiz which contributed their signatures to Hands Off Cain's appeal for a universal moratorium on capital executions.
The event took place at midday at the 'Beach and Bites' internet café Kolonaiki, Athens, with the support of Greece's main internet provider: OTENET.
The Athenian event had the purpose of reinforcing Greece's commitments to increase the number of cosponsors to the resolution for a moratorium on executions, which Greece, as holders of the EU Presidency, will present to the UN Commission on Human Rights in course in Geneva.
This was the fifth edition of Hands Off Cain's online campaign following the events in Rome, Madrid, Nuremberg and Stockholm.
The event was organised with the support of the European Union and the Win Balkan association. The next stops for Hands Off Cain's online campaign will be New York, Tokyo and European capitals.
