the government of Honduras continues to expect mercy from the US authorities, to avoid the October 3 execution of Honduran national Heliberto Chi. Tegucigalpa reiterated its request to Texas State to pardon the convict, with less than 24 hours left. Ramon Valladares Reina, in charge of the Consular department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry said that everything had been done in order to save Chi's life. He assured that the Foreign Ministry hopes it will receive a positive response after presenting a Habeas Corpus to the Penal Court in Texas. If that does not succeed, it will be sent to the UN Federal Court. The 29 year old prisoner denied his implication in the murder of a US businessman for which he was sentenced to death on November 17, 2002.
