House approves non-unanimous death penalty. Imposing the death penalty in Georgia would take only 10 of 12 jurors under an amended bill approved by the Georgia House today. Senate Bill 145 began as a proposal that would allow prosecutors to seek sentences of life without parole in aggravated murder cases without having to seek the death penalty first. But it was amended on the House floor to permit non-unanimous votes in favor of sentencing a convicted murder to death.
