Huang Faxiang, former director of the State Land Resources of Fengdu County, Chongqing Municipality, was executed for grafting more than 15 million yuan (1.8m US dollars). Huang Faxiang had been sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court of First Instance of Chongqing Municipality on February 28. He was convicted on charges of squeezing into, misappropriating and embezzling government funds allocated for resettling people affected by the massive Three Gorges Dam project. The Chongqing Municipal People's Government reiterated that it will strengthen the management of funds allocated for the popular resettlement related to the Three Gorges Dam project and deal harshly with those who may be misusing funds or taking bribes. Chongqing put up special telephone lines for the public to report on activities connected with the misuse of funds. A total of 138 cases involving the misuse of the resettlement fund had been reported in the Three Gorges Reservoir area in the previous six years.
