Human Rights Watch harshly criticized the human rights situation in Armenia, saying that the country's authorities practically do not take any measures to improve it.
In its report for 2001, the organization pointed out that prisoners in Armenia are still subjected to torture by law-enforcers and that despite being admitted to the CE, Armenia has not abolished capital punishment.
