hundreds of Tibetans took to the streets of New Delhi in a silent protest march to demand freedom for Tibetan monk Deleg Rinpoche sentenced to death in China. 
The group of young students and older Tibetan activists carried flags and banners and wore black bands across their faces that read: "Free Deleg," "Deleg is innocent," "Save Tibet" and "China, get out of Tibet".
Tensin Deleg Rinpoche, 52, had been sentenced to death in 2002 with Lobsang Dhondup, a 28-year-old activist, for a 2002 bomb attack in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan province, that killed one person and injured another.
Both men, who were also found guilty of other blasts in the Ganzi region of west Sichuan, denied the charges.
Lobsang Dhondup was executed in January 2003 in the case that stirred an international uproar but Tensin Deleg's death sentence was suspended for two years.
The suspension expired a week previous to the demonstration but Chinese officials had refused to say whether or not he had been executed.
"We want the immediate release of Tensin Deleg because he is totally innocent and has also been denied a fair trial," said Dolma Gyari, vice chairman of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile which is headquartered in the north Indian hill district of Dharamshala.
