ICELAND. REYKJAVÍK TO LOBBY AGAINST DEATH PENALTY

the City Council of Iceland’s capital Reykjavík agreed that the city would take part in the fight against the death penalty by becoming a member of "Cities for Life - Cities Against the Death Penalty".
About 400 cities around the world, including Copenhagen and Stockholm were participating in the initiative.
According to a statement released by the Council, by participating Reykjavík was contributing to this "important human rights campaign".
The Iceland chapter of Amnesty International unanimously welcomed the decision to participate in the battle against the death penalty.
The "Cities for Life" project was organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio in Rome and supported by human rights organizations around the world working together to abolish the death penalty.
