The court also demoted Sardi and dismissed him from service, according to Najdawi. Sardi was standing trial on charges of the premeditated murder of Major Haidar Majali in his office at the Public Security Department (PSD) headquarters in the capital’s Abdali area on January 5. He pleaded not guilty. In April, the court referred Sardi to a specialised centre at the PSD for psychiatric evaluation upon a request by his attorney. The PSD centre ruled after three months that the defendant was sane and fit to stand trial, according to Najdawi.
