In July, the Human Rights Association (IHD) started a signature collection campaign in a bid to abolish the death sentence. Lawyer Eren Keskin, head of the IHD Istanbul bureau, said that the Association had been advocating the abolition of the death penalty for the last 14 years, adding that it had conducted many campaigns without making any concessions on the issue.
