In May four convicted murderers, who conspired to kill a prosecutor in retaliation for putting them in prison, were given death sentences by the Intermediate People's Court of Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province. The victim, Huang Chonghua, was a prosecutor with the Hainan Prosecutor's Office, who handled a 1998 bribery case involving a local tax official, Meng Wenteng.
