In public trials, Chinese courts in Chongqing Municipality and Hunan Province sentenced 14 criminals to death with their political rights deprived of for life. The 14 were charged with crimes from robbery and murder to illegally buying and selling guns and ammunitions, and stealing guns and ammunitions.Four other criminals of the gang received harsh punishments, according to law, but did not receive the death penalty.Court investigations show that between June of 1991 and September of 2000, Zhang Jun directed or worked with Li Zejun, Chen Shiqing, Zhao Zhenghong, Yan Ruoming, Xu Jun, Li Jinsheng, Qin Zhibi, Quan Hongyan, Yan Min and others to conduct armed robbery, kill people intentionally and steal guns and ammunitions in Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan and Guangxi, causing the death of 28 people and injury of 22 others.
