in Sri Lanka, Kalmunai High Court Judge P. Swarnaraj handed down the death sentence to three suspects convicted with the murder of Mohamed Ismail Nurdeen of Irrakkamam. A. M. Musthaffa, A. Rafeek and A. Hanoon were indicted with committing the murder of Nurdeen on 27.03.2002. The case was first tried in the Ampara High Court and then transferred Kalmunai High Court. The accused pleaded that they had an alibi, but the judge sentenced them to death as the case was proved beyond any reasonable doubt.
