In Zhejiang province, Lu Zhengchun was executed for having produced 2.23 million yuan in counterfeit notes and fake coins.
He was executed as part of China's Strike Hard campaign. Earlier this week, authorities called for the intensification of the campaign, which has resulted in the executions of at least 1,800 people since President Jiang Zemin launched it in April.
Luo Gan, head of public order for the communist authorities, called for greater efforts to "eradicate prostitution and gambling" and for a "crackdown on superstitious activities," an allusion to the Falun Gong, which Beijing banned in 1999.
