Independent MP Hristo Ivanov said that he will move a proposal for the restoration of capital punishment for child murderers as hundreds of taxi drivers gathered before the parliament building in Sofia in protest against the brutal killing of a three-year old boy, Petar Terzyski, the son of a taxi driver. They urged authorities to reinstate the death penalty for child killers and crack down on crime. The protest may have led to the fall of Ivan Kostov's centre-right government, already under fire by the socialist opposition for not taking sufficiently harsh measures against crime. However the taxi-drivers disbanded, after besieging the parliament building for nearly 24 hours, when Interior Minister Emanouil Yordanov told them that traces similar to those left on Petar's neck by the cord used to strangle him had been found on his mother's hands. Daniela Terzyska, who has mental problems, later confessed to the murder.
