The Supreme Court of India stayed the execution of two condemned prisoners who were awarded death for sexually assaulting young girls before killing them.
A CJI T S Thakur-led bench issued notices to the Maharashtra and Delhi governments on appeals by the two convicts -Prakash Nishad from Mumbai and Vinod from Delhi.
The death sentence awarded to Nishad was confirmed by the Bombay HC when it found proof to uphold conviction for raping, sodomizing and brutally murdering a six-year-old girl in 2010.
