INDIA: COURT AWARDS DEATH SENTENCE TO FATHER WHO WAS GUILTY OF POISONING TWO CHILDREN
The Kundapur additional sessions court on 19 January 2019 awarded the death penalty for a father who was found guilty in the death of two children by poisoning them at Ganganadu near Byndoor.

The Kundapur additional sessions court on 19 January 2019 awarded the death penalty for a father who was found guilty in the death of two children by poisoning them at Ganganadu near Byndoor.
The court sentenced Shankaranarayana Hebbar (49) to death.
On October 16, 2016 he had attempted to commit suicide after giving poison to his children and wife. Consequently, the children, Ashwin Kumar Hebbar (15) and Aishwarya Hebbar (13) died. While his wife Mahalakshmi managed to save her life.
During investigations, the police recovered a 21-page note purportedly written by Shankaranarayana in which he admitted to administering the poison. The note highlights Shankaranayarana’s relationship with a woman and that he was depressed when the woman had married someone else.
