INDIA: DEATH PENALTY TO YOUTH FOR RAPE AND MURDER

A court in East Burdwan’s Katwa on 24 June 2022 handed the death penalty to a youth for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in 2018.
Jahangir Sheikh, 22, was found guilty by additional district and sessions judge of Katwa juvenile court, Sukumar Sutradhar.
Senior advocates said the judge considered the crime as “rarest of rare” and handed the capital punishment. In February 2018 Jahangir had taken away the five-year-old girl in East Burdwan’s Ketugram and her mutilated body was found in a pond.
