INDIA: MAN GETS DEATH FOR KILLING DAUGHTER

in Rampur, India, Additional District Judge Kamini Pathak sentenced Shaukat Saifi to death for beheading his daughter on June 20, 2009 over her love affair with a youth in Kirmicha village. Saifi killed Nasreen Jehan when she sought permission to marry Yassen, with whom she had spent the night before. Yassen was from a different sub-caste. "The victim wanted to marry the youth, but her father and other family members were against their relationship," police inspector Baburam Sagar said. It is not clear if the girl was 15 or 19-year-old. Last month the Supreme Court had ruled that honour killing, for whatever reason, came within the category of the rarest of rare cases and deserved the death penalty.
