a man was convicted by a fast track court in Mehsana, India, for killing his wife by setting her on fire. Dashrath Thakore of Virta village near Mehsana, husband of Veenaben, was awarded capital punishment by additional sessions judge J K Gandhi. According to the prosecution, Dashrath burnt his wife on February 17, 2007. Being jobless, he had demanded money for liquor from her. He regularly beat her as well as his own parents. When his wife refused him the money, he tied her to a cot, doused her with kerosene and set her on fire. To prevent anyone from helping her, Dashrath locked the door of the house and stood guard with a sharp weapon.
