INDIA: PLEA FOR ABOLITION OF DEATH PENALTY

Justice Ajit Singh Bains, president of the Punjab Human Rights Organisation, appealed for the abolition of the capital punishment in India. He was speaking at a function organised by the Punjab Sikh Council to mobilise public opinion for the abolition of the death sentence. Advocate Barjinder Singh Sodhi said in India there were 40 cases of death penalty pending as their mercy petitions were still to be decided.
